***Come and Join Us*** We will celebrate The Ascension of the Lord tomorrow, Sunday, June 2.... Today is our liturgical celebration of the Ascension of the Lord, when Jesus was taken to heaven on the 40th day after Easter. In Cycle C, our Gospel is taken from the conclusion of the Gospel of Luke. There are similarities in the reports of Jesus' Ascension found in the Synoptic Gospels—Mark, Matthew, and Luke. In each account, Jesus assigns his disciples the task of proclaiming the Gospel to the entire world. There are also notable distinctions. In the Gospels of Mark and Matthew, the disciples are sent by Jesus to baptize as well as to preach. In Luke's Gospel, however, this commission to baptize is absent. Instead, Jesus directs the disciples to return to Jerusalem to await the fulfillment of his promise to send them the Holy Spirit. Curiously, only Mark and Luke actually report Jesus' Ascension into heaven. Matthew's Gospel concludes with Jesus' promise to remain with his disciples forever. Only the Gospel of Mark notes that Jesus ascended to sit at the right hand of God. In noting this, Mark teaches that Jesus' Ascension affirms the glory Jesus received from God after his death and Resurrection. Those who believe in Jesus will be empowered to do what Jesus himself has done. Already in Mark's Gospel, during his ministry, Jesus sent his disciples out to preach, to heal, and to drive out unclean spirits. Now, they are sent again to do these things and more. From his place with God in heaven, Jesus helped his disciples, and he continues to help us as we try to live as his followers.

Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary: May 31 This is a fairly late feast, going back only to the 13th or 14th century. It was established widely throughout the Church to pray for unity. The present date of celebration was set in 1969, in order to follow the Annunciation of the Lord and precede the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. Like most feasts of Mary, it is closely connected with Jesus and his saving work. The more visible actors in the visitation drama (see Luke 1:39-45) are Mary and Elizabeth. However, Jesus and John the Baptist steal the scene in a hidden way. Jesus makes John leap with joy—the joy of messianic salvation. Elizabeth, in turn, is filled with the Holy Spirit and addresses words of praise to Mary—words that echo down through the ages. It is helpful to recall that we do not have a journalist’s account of this meeting. Rather Luke, speaking for the Church, gives a prayerful poet’s rendition of the scene. Elizabeth’s praise of Mary as “the mother of my Lord” can be viewed as the earliest Church’s devotion to Mary. As with all authentic devotion to Mary, Elizabeth’s (the Church’s) words first praise God for what God has done to Mary. Only secondly does she praise Mary for trusting God’s words. Saint Matthias- Feast day May 14 People may have been suprised when Matthias was elected to take the place of Judas among the apostles after Jesus’ death and resurrection. The New Testament mentions Matthias only once, and that is in the account of how he was chosen to become one of the apostles. After the death of Judas, the apostles met to elect someone to replace him. Peter presided at this meeting and reminded the others of the qualification necessary for being an apostle: The candidate had to have been a follower of Jesus Christ from the time of Jesus’ baptism by John until his Ascension into heaven. Soon the choice was narrowed to two men: Joseph, so good and holy that he was known as Joseph the Just, and Matthias, also a very good and holy man. At this point it would seem as though Joseph had an edge over Matthias, but God’s ways aren’t the same as our ways. After the apostles prayed for divine guidance, they cast lots and Matthias was chosen to share in the ministry of the apostles. So Matthias became an apostle and a witness with the others to the Resurrection of Christ. Tradition links Matthias with the country of Ethiopia, where he is believed to have met his martyrdom. The known facts about the missionary work and martyrdom of Matthias are not many. What is known is that he loved Christ and that he lived and died to spread the Good News as far as possible.

Our Lady of Fatima- May 13 The Story of Our Lady of Fatima Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children–Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin Lucia dos Santos–received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners, and for the conversion of Russia. Mary gave the children three secrets. Following the deaths of Francisco and Jacinta in 1919 and 1920 respectively, Lucia revealed the first secret in 1927. It concerned devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second secret was a vision of hell. When Lucia grew up she became a Carmelite nun and died in 2005 at the age of 97. Pope John Paul II directed the Holy See’s Secretary of State to reveal the third secret in 2000; it spoke of a “bishop in white” who was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows into him. Many people linked this vision to the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square on May 13, 1981. On Saturday, April 20, We celebrated the Easter Vigil with Easter Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. We welcome our brothers and sisters into the Church and be in full communion with her. We ask the Holy Spirit to continue to lead and guide them in their life! Holy Saturday - Easter Virgil There will be only one Mass tonight, April 20, 2019 at St. Dennis, Crow Agency at 8pm. Tonight is the night! When our Lord and Savior destroyed death as we celebrate his Resurrection. It is also tonight that we welcome our fellow brothers and sisters into the Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Please join us tonight in this wonderful celebration!!!!

Good Friday Service will be at St. Dennis, Crow Agency at 6pm and Our Lady of Loretto, Lodge Grass at 6pm. On April 3 & 4, the 5th to 8th grades students from Pretty Eagle Catholic Academy went to St. Dennis Parish for a retreat about "Forgiven" in which Mr. Jack Joyce and Br. Nick led. The students learned how to forgive one another just as God has forgiven them while also having some fun times with one another. Here are pictures from the retreat!!!

Dreamer Joseph: Teach us to dream a world where all are neighbors; a vision illuminated by God's light. Teacher Joseph: Teach us to keep the Word of God close to our hearts, and to proclaim it in word and action. Gentle Joseph: Teach us to be gentle with our power and strong in our tenderness. Parent Joseph: Teach us to be for all persons a living lesson of goodness and truth - a blessing for all generations to come. Amen.
